Altar Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Altar handles information when you stream sermons and music, read Christian literature, create an account, link devices, upload content, make purchases, or use the web and mobile apps.

Last updated: 5 May 2026 Applies to Altar web, Android, iOS, desktop, and related services
Altar is part of the Sound Central platform. Some features are available without signing in, while account, payment, device, upload, and publisher features require information to work correctly.

1. Overview

Altar provides sermons, gospel music, Christian literature, videos, live streams, access codes, device linking, content publishing tools, and optional purchases. To provide those features, we process information you give us, information created as you use the app, and limited technical information from your device or browser.

We collect what the service needs. Examples include account details, content activity, device links, payment references, uploaded media, diagnostics, and support messages.
We do not sell your personal information. We use trusted providers to run authentication, hosting, analytics, payments, storage, and error monitoring.
Card details are handled by Paystack. Altar receives payment status and transaction references, not full card numbers.
You can contact us about your data. Email altar@soundcentral.africa for privacy requests or account questions.

2. Information We Collect

Account and profile information

When you sign in or create a profile, we may collect your name, email address, profile photo, user ID, role, authentication status, and profile settings.

Content and app activity

We may process information about the content you browse, search for, play, purchase, unlock with an access code, add to a cart, or manage as a publisher. This helps the app show the right content and maintain your history, inbox, and access permissions.

Device and access-code information

If you link a TV, set-top box, phone, browser, or other device, we may process device identifiers, access codes, linking status, timestamps, and related account details.

Payment and order information

For purchases and subscriptions, we may store order records, product information, transaction references, payment status, receipts, and access-code delivery information. Full card details are handled by Paystack and are not stored by Altar.

Publisher uploads and content management

If you upload sermons, audio, video, PDFs, merchandise, or live-stream details, we process the files and metadata you provide, such as titles, descriptions, extensions, file sizes, publisher ownership, and submission IDs.

Diagnostics, analytics, and technical data

We may collect technical information such as browser type, device type, operating system, IP address, app version, crash reports, performance data, error logs, and usage analytics. This helps us keep the service stable and understand which parts of the app need improvement.

3. How We Use Information

  • Provide streaming, reading, search, profile, device linking, access code, and content management features.
  • Authenticate users and keep account sessions working across supported platforms.
  • Process purchases, subscriptions, order confirmations, and content access.

  • Measure app performance, diagnose crashes, and improve the quality of Altar and Sound Central.
  • Respond to support, privacy, account, and publisher requests.

4. Sharing and Service Providers

We share information only where needed to operate, secure, improve, or support Altar. Service providers may process information for us under their own terms and privacy practices.

  • Sound Central backend services: account, content, orders, access codes, device linking, roles, and publisher workflows.
  • Firebase and Google services: app configuration, analytics, authentication-related services, and web measurement.
  • Paystack: payment processing and transaction verification.
  • AWS S3-compatible storage: uploaded files and media delivery.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect users and the service, or during a business transfer involving the Sound Central platform.

5. Payments

Altar uses Paystack for checkout. When you pay, Paystack may collect payment details directly from you. Altar stores the information needed to confirm the transaction, unlock content, issue access codes, maintain order history, and provide support.

Do not send full card numbers, banking passwords, or one-time PINs to Altar support. We will never ask for those details by email or chat.

6. Uploads and Publisher Tools

Publisher, moderator, and owner features allow authorised users to upload and manage content. Uploaded files and metadata may be visible to users of Altar or partner Sound Central apps depending on publication settings, content type, access permissions, and distribution choices.

Only upload content you have the right to publish. Avoid uploading private personal information inside sermons, PDFs, audio, videos, descriptions, or artwork unless you have permission and a clear reason to do so.

7. Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies

The web app and related providers may use cookies, browser storage, cache data, and similar technologies to keep the app running, remember sessions, support analytics, load media, and improve performance. You can control cookies and storage through your browser settings, but blocking them may affect sign-in, playback, purchases, or saved preferences.

8. Security and Retention

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect information, including access controls, role-based permissions, encrypted transport where supported, and monitoring for errors and abuse. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal or accounting obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, support publisher records, and enforce agreements. Retention periods may vary by data type and feature.

10. Children

Altar is a general audience Christian content platform and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Altar, please contact us so we can review the issue.
